Denise Juneau holds lead in election for Montana public schools

Democrat Denise Juneau, the first American Indian to run the Montana Superintendent of Public Instruction, holds onto a lead against Republican Sandy Welch.

Juneau is a member of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation of North Dakota. She was raised on the Blackfeet Nation in Montana.

Juneau gained attention when she spoke at the 2012 Democratic National Convention in September. She discussed her educational background and Indian issues.
