Washington mayor supports elimination of 'Redskins' mascot

Washington, D.C., Mayor Vince Gray said the Washington Redskins should change its name if the team wants to move back to the nation's capital.

The team is currently based in a Maryland suburb near DC. There's been talk of relocating the team to its namesake city but Gray said the mascot will be an issue.

“I think it has become a lightning rod, and I would be love to be able to sit down with the team … and see if a change should be made,” Gray told The Washington Post. “There’s a precedent for this, and I think there needs to be a dispassionate discussion about this, and do the right thing.”
