Federal Recognition

Audio from House hearing on federal recognition process

The House Subcommittee on Indian and Alaska Native Affairs held a hearing this morning on federal recognition.

The sole witness was Assistant Secretary Kevin Washburn. This was his first appearance before the subcommittee since being confirmed as the head of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

The hearing lasted about 90 minutes. Lawmakers spent a significant amount of time on issues somewhat related to the federal recognition process, such as the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Carcieri v. Salazar. Full audio can be found below or on the Indianz.Com SoundCloud.
