Dispute over $13.6M Cobell attorney fees sent to mediation

A dispute over $13.6 million in attorney fees in the Cobell trust fund settlement has been sent to mediation, Indian Country Today reports.

Some $85.3 million has already been paid to the firm of Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton and to solo practitioner Dennis Gingold, ICT reported. The remaining $13.6 million has been claimed by the Native American Rights Fund and attorney Mark Brown.

Kilpatrick Townsend is opposing fees for NARF and Brown. The firm claims NARF started working on tribal trust litigation without the consent of the plaintiffs and that Brown left the case on his own.

Judge Thomas Hogan assigned Magistrate Alan Kay mediate the matter.
