Three from Native Mob gang go on trial as part of large case

Three members of the Native Mob gang are going on trial today as part of a large case involving a total of 25 defendants and 57 charges.

Wakinyon Wakan McArthur, 34, is said to be the leader of the gang, which operates on and off reservations in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He's going to trial with other gang members, Anthony Francis Cree, 26, and William Earl Morris, 25.

“This is a major case on many levels,” Jeanne Cooney, the spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Minnesota, told the Associated Press. “It’s one of the largest, if not the largest case dealing with Native American gangs.”

According to the 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment, the Native Mob has its roots among American Indian inmates.
