Northern Cheyenne Tribe leader removed in employee dispute

John Robinson, the president of the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Montana, has been removed from office.

The tribal council voted to remove Robinson after he fired Darlene Soldier Wolf, the director of the Rosebud Lodge for neglected and abused children. Robinson fired her without first sending a complaint to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, a tribal spokesperson said.

The council reinstated Soldier Wolf, who has been accused of child abuse. She requested back pay, the Associated Press reported.

Robinson assumed office in November 2012. Vice President Winfield Russell is serving as acting president until the council decides what to do to fill the post.
