The Chippewa Cree Tribe of Montana will vote July 30 for a new chairman.

The seat became open when the council forced Ken Blatt St. Marks out of office. He has filed to run again and will face Luanne Belcourt, Bert Corcoran, Curtis A. Monteau Jr., acting chair Richard “Ricky” Morsette, and state Sen. Jonathan Windy Boy for the post.

St. Marks was initially barred from running again because of the way he was removed from office. He says he has been targeted because he has encouraged federal agencies to investigate corruption on the reservation.

So far, six people have been indicted this year for stealing from the tribe.
