Historic Narragansett Tribe village protected from development

The state of Rhode Island has purchased a historic Narragansett Tribe village to protect it from development. The 32-acre Salt Pond site dates back several hundred years. Archaeologists say it's one of the most important finds on the East Coast. "As a state, we have made a commitment to protect our unique heritage," Attorney General Kilmartin said in a press release. "Through this acquisition, we have preserved one of the most important Narragansett Indian archaeological sites in our state, while also providing additional open space in this ecologically sensitive area of Rhode Island."
