Chumash Tribe seeks discussion on land-into-trust application

The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians wants to discuss its land-into-trust application with Santa Barbara County, California.

The tribe submitted an application to the Bureau of Indian Affairs for a 1,400-acre site. The agency will consult local officials but the tribe wants to engage in government-to-government talks with the county.

The board of supervisors will consider the tribe's request tonight. At least one official has already expressed alarm about the application.
