Colville Tribes looking to negotiate deal for land-into-trust plan

The Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation are looking to negotiate a land-into-trust agreement in Moses Lake, Washington.

The tribe purchased a seven-acre site for more than $1 million with the intention of opening a truck stop. But plans now call for a convenience store and gas station.

The tribe and the city met earlier this year to discuss taxation and regulatory issues, The Columbia Basin Herald reported. They didn't reach an agreement but a deal is still on the table.

"We encourage them to come back to the table and understand that both sides have to give because in the last negotiation, it was all us giving and they didn't give an inch," Chairman Michael Finley told the paper.

The tribe submitted a land-into-trust application for the site to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
