Montana tribe won't put employees on furlough for shutdown

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of Montana says it won't be putting any employees on furlough due to the shutdown of the federal government.

The tribe is the largest employer in northwest Montana. For now, its employees are limiting travel and expenditures as the shutdown continues.

It’s more than anyone wants to think about,” spokesperson Rob McDonald told The Ronan Valley Journal. “Every week we get deeper into October the higher the cost is.”

The National Bison Range, which is located entirely within reservation boundaries, has been closed due to the shutdown.
