Senate Indian Affairs Committee business meeting and hearing





The Senate Indian Affairs Committee will hold a business meeting and hearing next Thursday, November 14.

The committee will take up three bills at the business meeting. They are:
S.1352, A bill to reauthorize the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act of 1996, and for other purposes
S.1448, A bill to provide for equitable compensation to the Spokane Tribe of Indians of the Spokane Reservation for the use of tribal land for the production of hydropower by the Grand Coulee Dam, and for other purposes
S.434, A bill to authorize and implement the water rights compact among the Blackfeet Tribe of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation and the State of Montana, and for other purposes.

Immediately following the business meeting, the committee will hold an oversight hearing on the "fiscal crisis" in Indian Country. The main topics will be contract support costs and sequestration of the federal budget.

The business meeting and hearing will take place at 2:30pm in Room 628 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building.
