Manitoba police officer goes on trial for assaulting Native man





A police officer in Winnipeg, Manitoba, is on trial for assaulting a Native man who had to undergo surgery.

Henry Lavallee was in custody in November 2008 when he was kicked in the stomach. He was injured so badly that his colon ruptured.

Officer Ryan Law was charged with aggravated assault for the incident. He's been on administrative leave for more than three years now.
