Shoshone-Bannock Tribes to fight ruling in jurisdiction case

The Shoshone-Bannock Tribes of Idaho will ask the full 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to rehear a jurisdiction case.

The tribe sought to prevent David Evans, a non-Indian, from building a home on fee land within the boundaries of the Fort Hall Reservation. A three-judge panel said the tribe lacked jurisdiction over the activity.

"The Tribes will continue to defend their permanent homeland and sovereignty," the tribe said in a statement, The Idaho State Journal reported.

Turtle Talk has posted documents from the case, Evans v. Shoshone-Bannock Land Use Policy Commission.
