Kaw Nation signs tobacco and 'burn ban' compacts in Oklahoma

The Kaw Nation signed two compacts with the state of Oklahoma on Monday.

The tribe signed the first "burn ban" compact in the state. It covers the the issuance and execution of burn bans.

The tribe also renewed its tobacco tax deal. The agreement is the first expiring compact that was negotiated by Gov. Mary Fallin (R).

“The Kaw Nation is very pleased to have concluded negotiations with Governor Fallin related to burn Bans and tobacco sales,” said Chairman Guy Munroe said in a press release. “The Kaw Nation appreciates the effort and understanding that Governor Fallin and her staff have brought to these negotiations. These compacts provide certainty to the Kaw Nation and provide a foundation for a continuing strong relationship between the Kaw Nation and the state for the benefit of our members and the members of our local community.”
