Indian lawmaker draws applause for immigration comments

Kansas Rep. Ponka-We Victors (D) drew applause for comments she made about immigration.

Victors, a member of the Tohono O'odham Nation, is the only Indian lawmaker in the state. She questioned Secretary of State Kris Kobach about a bill to restrict in-state tuition to U.S. citizens.

"I think it’s funny Mr. Kobach, because when you mention illegal immigrant, I think of all of you,” Victors told Kobach, The Topeka Capital-Journal reported.

Her comments drew applause from people at the hearing, the paper said.
