Kiowa Tribe looks to resolve long-running dispute over election

The Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma is hoping to resolve a long-running dispute over its elections process.

The tribe's election board only has three out of five members. But only one is recognized as a validly seated member.

As a result, two of the last elections that were overseen by the board haven't been recognized. Chairwoman Amber Toppah hopes the dispute can be resolved in time for an election this June.

“It might not be the first weekend in June due to the background checks, but there will be an election in June,” Toppah said at a business committee meeting, The Native American Times reported.
