Miami Nation contributes $50K to pay for school safety officer

The Miami Nation of Oklahoma is contributing $50,000 to pay for a school safety officer in the Miami public school district.

The donation will help pay for a full-time officer. The tribe gave the money in honor of the victims of the December 14, 2012, school shooting in Sandy Hook, Connecticut.

“Our youth are our future,” said Chief Tom Gamble, The Miami News-Record reported. “It is our responsibility as good community partners, and as responsible individuals, to ensure that our children are protected and feel safe while they are at school.”
