Albert Smith, a Navajo Code Talker from New Mexico, died on Wednesday. He was 88.

Smith lied about his age in order to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 15. He used the Navajo language to transmit unbreakable codes during World War II.

"He will be greatly missed, yet his legendary life and service to the United States will live on in our hearts forever," a posting on the Facebook page of Our Navajo Code Talker said in announcing Smith's passing.

Smith is being buried at Laguna Pueblo in New Mexico.
