D.C. Council to take up resolution against 'Redskins' mascot

David Gross, a member of the D.C. Council, plans to introduce a resolution calling on the Washington Redskins professional football team to eliminate its mascot.

Grosso, an independent who was elected last year, said the name is derogatory and racist. “It’s been a long time that we’ve had this name associated with Washington, and I think its time we take a stand and change it,” he told The Washington Post.

The resolution that Grosso plans on introducing will be non-binding.
