Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe receives $38.5M trust settlement

The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota settled its trust fund lawsuit for $38.5 million.

After attorney's fees of $7.7 million and other costs, the tribe will be sharing approximately $30.4 million with its 19,000 members. Per capita checks of about $1,600 can be picked up May 15 and May 16 on the reservation, according to a press release.

The Obama administration has settled nearly 60 tribal trust fund lawsuits.
