Goshute Tribes lead 272-mile walk to protest water project

The Confederated Tribes of the Goshute Reservation in Utah are leading a 272-mile walk to protest a water project.

The Nevada Groundwater Development Project includes a 306-mile pipeline that crosses Goshute ancestral territory. The tribes say it will draw too much water from northeastern Nevada.

“If it’s pumped out and the aquifers drop, there will be no plants or animals, people are going to have to move and this place is going to turn into a desert," Chairman Ed Naranjo told The Ely Times.

The Southern Nevada Water Authority needs federal approval for the pipeline, which will bring water to Las Vegas.
