Minnesota city orders eagle staff to be removed at civic center

The city of Duluth, Minnesota, has ordered an eagle staff to be removed from the lawn of the Duluth Civic Center.

Ricky DeFoe, the chairman of the Duluth American Indian Commission, and others planted the staff on the lawn in the fall of 2011, The Duluth News Tribune reported. It has been replanted three times, including on June 24, after someone had taken it out and threw it in the bushes.

“We’ve always said we’ll put it up again," DeFoe told the paper after a city deadline to remove the staff passed without incident on Wednesday.

The city says the staff is an unauthorized memorial.
