Four Oklahoma tribes do not recognize same-sex marriages

At least four Oklahoma tribes do not recognize same-sex marriages, Dallas Voice reports.

The Cherokee Nation, the Muscogee Nation, the Chickasaw Nation and the Iowa Tribe restrict marriages to unions between one man and one woman. No other state seems to boast that many tribes against the idea of marriage equality, the report notes.

Elsewhere in Indian Country, Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians in Michigan, the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians in Michigan, the Coquille Tribe of Oregon, the Suquamish Tribe of Washington and the Santa Ysabel Tribe of California treat all marriages the same.
