Oglala Sioux Tribe wants to hear from Wounded Knee survivors

Oglala Sioux Tribe President Bryan Brewer welcomed the involvement of actor Johnny Depp in Wounded Knee talks but said a final decision rests with survivors of the 1890 massacre.

Depp wants to buy the massacre site and return it to the tribe. The sale of the land has generated controversy so Brewer said the descendants need to be involved.

"We're going to leave that up to the survivors of Wounded Knee," Brewer told KELO-TV. " We're going to talk with them, we're going to talk with the owners of the land, and maybe we'll be able to negotiate something that everyone will be happy with."

The non-Indian owner wants to sell the 40-acre property, plus an adjoining 40-acre parcel, for a total of $4.9 million. The parcels, however, have been appraised for a total of $14,000.
