Nonprofit sues Cobell lawsuit team for share of attorney fees

The nonprofit Lannan Foundation has filed suit against the attorneys who handled the Cobell trust fund lawsuit.

Lannan said it gave more than $6 million to support the historic case with the promise of repayment. The foundation said it received $1.5 million a few years ago but filed suit to claim another $4.54 million.

Congress enacted a law that settled the case for $3.4 billion. Of that amount, $99 million went to solo practitioner Dennis Gingold and the Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton law firm.

Lannan is suing Gingold and the firm in federal court in Washington, D.C.
