Chair of Lumbee Tribe questioned over use of housing funds

Leaders of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina are questioning the use of housing funds by Chairman Paul Brooks.

Brooks authorized the use of $36,000 to buy a lot near a golf course. But council members say the price doesn't fit in with the tribe's housing goals.

Council members also say Brooks has been involved in other purchase through an entity known as the Lumbee Land Development. They are asking him to turn over all checks but he has refused, The Fayetteville Observer reported.

The council says the chairman must receive authorization for purchases above $5,000.
