Headquarters of Colville Tribes completely destroyed by blaze

The headquarters of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation in Washington was completely destroyed by fire early today.

Firefighters responded to the scene at 1:15am and found the building engulfed in flames, The Wenatchee World reported. A large number of vital government records were lost.

"I can’t give a full assessment, but without a doubt, a large portion of what was lost is irreplaceable,” Chairman Michael Finley told the paper.

The building housed the tribal council, the election office, executive staff, support staff and the tribal newspaper. It was about 40 years old.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
