Non-Indian offender fights seizure of truck by Salt River Tribe

A non-Indian offender says the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community of Arizona stole his truck after he was found with drugs.

Brian Phillips was charged with possession of marijuana and narcotics, plus misconduct with weapons, after tribal police found marijuana and meth in his pickup truck back in December 2011. The vehicle was seized and registered to a new owner in March, The Phoenix New Times reported.

"Hate to break it to the Indians, but they're supposed to resemble legitimate law," Phillips wrote in a letter to the New Times. "I consider the products that they confiscated from me theft under the color of law."

Phillips claims he uses marijuana and other drugs for medical purposes.
