Rosebud Boys and Girls club revamped

Native Sun News Correspondent ROSEBUD — Days before the annual Rosebud Fair and Rodeo, a new addition to the Boys and Girls Club of Rosebud was completed. The basketball courts were the first to be unveiled as the upcoming renovations to the Rosebud location. For the program, this was a much needed expansion. The basketball courts are part of a larger change to the Rosebud site, which includes renovations to the building and a new 20 passenger bus. All of this was funded by A World Feast, an organization out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The organization worked with the Boys and Girls Club, and the Rosebud Sioux tribal council in the creation of the court, and the expansion. The Boys and Girls Club’s courts and other future programming are needed in the community of Rosebud, and also are a look into the future other sites on the reservation at Mission and Parmelee. During the fair, Glen Marshall, unit director of the Mission site, was involved in running a 3-on-3 tournament sponsored by the RST Diabetes Prevention Program. Marshall said, “I’m very excited about the new location.” He has high hopes for what the Rosebud and the basketball courts are a big part of it. For the upcoming year, Marshall and the other staff have after-school programming and a mentoring program planned for the youth. So far, the mentoring program has had 10 teachers from the area schools, and 15 community members interested in mentoring the youth. The future of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Rosebud is bright, with renovations, additional resources, and further commitment to improve each site. The 3-on-3 tournament was a great start, with the team Flight taking second to the team Oelrichs who won the tournament.
