Protesters call on end to racist mascot in professional sports

The Wisconsin Indian Education Association hosted a protest on Sunday against the use of Indian mascots in professional football.

The protest took place as the Green Bay Packers hosted the team from Washington. Participants carried signs that read “Redskins is institutionalized racism” and “Redskins refer to the scalps of my ancestors," The Green Bay Press-Gazette reported.

“We’d like to see it changed,” protestor Hugh Danforth told the paper. “It’s a racist name.

The owner of the team, Dan Snyder, has said he will "never" change the name despite opposition from nearly every national Indian organization, members of Congress and media outlets.
