Cherokee Nation teen found guilty over school shooting plot

A young member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma was convicted for plotting a shooting at his high school.

Sammie Eaglebear Chavez, 19, was found guilty of planning to cause bodily harm but acquitted of conspiring to perform an act of violence. He allegedly told other students that he planned to bring guns and bombs to Bartlesville High School.

Chavez has been in custody since his arrest on December 14, 2012. He is due to be sentenced November 12.

The jury recommended Chavez serve 30 months in prison and pay a $5,000 fine.
