Another conservative site questions leader of Oneida Nation

The Daily Caller, a conservative leaning web site that rarely discusses Indian issues, is questioning the legitimacy of Ray Halbritter, the federally-recognized representative of the Oneida Nation of New York.

Halbritter has been recognized as the tribe's representative since 1975. But the site quotes a state lawmaker who claims he isn't even Indian.

“He is not even technically an Oneida. There is not a drop of Oneida in him,” Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney (R) told the site.

Conservative publications are questioning Halbritter because the Oneidas are leading the Change the Mascot campaign.
