Sonic apologizes for racist sign about Washington football team

Signboard in Missouri reads: "'KC CHIEFS' WILL SCALP THE REDSKINS FEED THEM WHISKEY SEND - 2 - RESERVATION"

The Sonic Drive-In company apologized for a signboard that contained a racist message about the Washington professional football team.

The sign in Belton, Missouri, was up for a few hours on Sunday, the day of a game between the Kansas City and Washington team. It read: "'KC CHIEFS' WILL SCALP THE REDSKINS FEED THEM WHISKEY SEND - 2 - RESERVATION."

"The remarks posted on this message board were wrong, offensive and unacceptable," Patrick the Lenow, vice president of public relations at Sonic, told NBC News. "On behalf of the franchise owner and our entire brand we apologize for the offensive remarks."
