Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes elect rival sets of leaders

Rival factions of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma elected new leaders but the Bureau of Indian Affairs isn't recognizing either group.

One faction elected Eddie Hamilton as governor while the other chose Darrell Flyingman. But since a case is pending before the Interior Board of Indian Appeals, the BIA won't recognize the results.

“Until the IBIA rules on the tribes’ pending appeal, the BIA will not recognize either administration as the government of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes,” spokesperson Nedra Darling told The Native American Times.

The tribe has been in rival factions for more than a year.
