Man fired by Passamaquoddy Tribe looks elsewhere for job

CORRECTION: The man at issue was employed by the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point, not at Indian Township as incorrectly stated in the first version of this post.

A man who was fired by the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point in Maine almost landed another job in Indian Country, The Portland Press Herald reports.

The Fort Bidwell Indian Community in California planned to hire "Leon Knudsen" as chief financial officer. But tribal leaders discovered he was the same person whom the Passamaquoddys fired for concealing his criminal past.

“We have enough people ripping us off,” Denise Pollard, the treasurer at Fort Bidwell, told the Herald. “We don’t need another.”

The man's birth name is Arlynn E. Knudsen. He was convicted in 1997 of stealing $2.66 million from the Oglala Lakota College in South Dakota and served 10 years in federal prison.

After being released, the man changed his name to "Arlyn EagleStar." and worked as the chief financial officer for the South Puget Intertribal Planning Agency in Washington. He moved onto an administrator job for the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas but he only lasted two months.

He eventually ended up in Maine, where he was known as Charles Fourcloud. After he was charged for driving with an expired driver's license, tribal authorities found out he had been changing his name on a regular basis as he sought different financial positions in Indian Country.

Fourcloud appeared in court in Maine today to face charges from his arrest, the Herald reported.
