Vehicle tax exemption limited for Wyoming tribal members

Members of Wyoming's two tribes are seeing a new limit on a vehicle sales tax exemption.

Fremont County will only allow the exemption to members of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe and the Northern Arapaho Tribe if the sale occurs on the Wind River Reservation. Documents must show that the vehicle was delivered to Indian Country

Previously, all sales were given the exemption as long as the buyer lived on the reservation. But the county changed its policy after hearing from the state Department of Revenue, County 10 News reported.

County treasurer Scott Harnsberger said the change has nothing to do with a controversial Environmental Protection Agency decision that could affect the boundaries of the reservation.
