A young member of the Big Valley Rancheria of California is competing on American Idol.

Aranesa Turner, 20, wowed the judges during her audition of "Pure Imagination" from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." She will appear on the show this evening as she competes against other finalists during "Hollywood Week."

"It's amazing to be able to represent who I am and where I come from on a stage as big as 'American Idol,'" Turner told The Bellingham Herald, referring to her Native American and African-American heritage and her Christian faith.

Turner is currently a student at Northwest Indian College in Washington.
