The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation of North Dakota has authorized an independent investigation into the business dealings of Chairman Tex Hall.

According to The Bismarck Tribune, the tribe is bringing in Stephen Hill, a former U.S. Attorney for Missouri, to look into Hall, who runs an energy company that has done business on the Fort Berthold Reservation.

Hall hasn't been accused of any wrongdoing. But one of the employees of Maheshu Energy is a former felon who faces weapons charges in North Dakota and has been linked to the murder of a Washington man who also did business on the reservation.

The employee, James Henrikson, is suspected of hiring someone to murder the Washington man although he hasn't been charged in that case. He also allegedly wanted to hire someone to kill Hall.

Additionally, Henrikson is reportedly under investigation for stealing money from Hall's company.

"The council had recently received information, including recent media accounts related to a business partnership with Henrikson, that raised issues regarding Chairman Hall that we felt needed an independent review. However, it is important for the integrity of our tribal government and all our tribal members that we get to the bottom of this story,” Vice Chairman Fred Fox told the Tribune.
