Minor league baseball team features Salish word on uniform

The Spokane Indians will debut the jersey on Opening Night, June 13, 2014.

The Spokane Tribe of Washington is continuing its collaboration with the Spokane Indians baseball team.

During home games this season, players will sport jerseys with the Salish version of the team's name: Sp’q’n’i.

"We welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with our namesake professional baseball team on this project," Chairman Rudy Peone said in a press release. "We view this collaboration as a significant opportunity to educate thousands of baseball fans about the language and culture of the Spokane Tribe of Indians - the city's first inhabitants."

The team previously collaborated with the tribe to design a new logo.
