House Natural Resources Committee to hold markup and hearing





The House Natural Resources Committee will hold a markup and hearing this week.

On Wednesday, the committee will markup H.R.4002. The bill allows the Miami Nation to revoke the charter that was approved under the Oklahoma Indian Welfare Act.

The House Subcommittee on Indian and Alaska Native Affairs held a hearing on H.R.4002 on March 27. Chief Douglas Lankford explained the need to rescind an outdated document that is almost impossible to change.

The Obama administration supports the bill, Assistant Secretary Kevin Washburn, the head of the Bureau of Indian Affairs said at the hearing. Similar measures have been approved for other tribes in the past.

On Thursday, the hold an oversight hearing on tribal forestry management practices. A witness list hasn't been posted online.
