The Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians in California has suspended a group of tribal members, Action News Now reports.

The tribe held its general council meeting on April 12. Chairman Andy Freeman reportedly asked members of the “Henthorne/Pata” family to leave because he said they do not meet enrollment criteria.

The family members will have a chance to appeal at an upcoming meeting before they are officially disenrolled. Exact numbers weren't reported but Treasurer Ambrosia Rico said they make up a large segment of the tribal population.

"The family specifically has had a lot of power over the tribe and membership," Rico told Action News Now. "And it is a relief to now finally have our tribe back.”
