The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe will host President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama next Friday, June 13.

Chairman Dave Archambault said the tribe got the official word of the visit on Wednesday. "He could have went anywhere, and he chose us," he told The Bismarck Tribune.

"The President's visit demonstrates his Administration's continuing dedication to Native American issues which touch not only the lives of Standing Rock Tribal members, but of Native Americans across the United States,' the tribe added in a statement. "We believe the President's visit will be the latest dialogue in a vital and continuing conversation about federal-tribal relations, and look forward to welcoming the president to our Tribal lands.

Obama will head to Cannonball, on the North Dakota portion of the reservation. His visit coincides with the tribe's veterans celebration.

Obama's Indian policy adviser, Jodi Gillette, is a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and is Archambault's sister. The reservation straddles the North Dakota-South Dakota border.

During the presidential campaign in 2008, Obama visited the Crow Reservation in Montana. Since winning the election, he has met with tribal leaders during the annual White House Conference.
