Jodi Lee Spotted Bear: Back on the rez to work on Indian news

Jodi Lee Spotted Bear is working for her tribe -- the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation of North Dakota -- and will be once again providing news for Indian Country:
I was recently hired as the new executive director of Fort Berthold Communication Enterprises, a position that has been vacant for about four years. I look forward to bringing more than 20 years of journalism experience to improving the quality and content of what readers see in the newspaper and hear on the radio.

Thanks to the efforts of the FBCE board and staff members here at KMHA and MHA Times, we are moving forward with some significant changes. We are doing our best, but definitely need more employees.

As for changes already afoot, we are creating a new look for the newspaper. We are fortunate to be working with Rusty Gillette, a highly accomplished graphic artist and business owner who is also a Three Affiliated Tribes citizen. He designed the stately masthead seen on the front page of this issue. We are grateful for his time and effort.

On the radio side, we owe a shout out to the Three Affiliated Tribes Business Council, which recently approved the purchase of updated equipment for KMHA, our 100,000 watt station. In fact, the equipment is being installed now. We will be able to transfer everything to our new building when the time arrives.

More kudos are in store to the TAT Business Council representatives who also approved a new building to house the radio and newspaper. We are expecting to break ground in June or July. DJR Architecture, Inc., a Minneapolis design firm, has created remarkable interior and exterior design plans for us. We are looking forward to moving into our new home — in our current location– by November.

We will provide updates on this project and look forward to inviting everyone to our open house.
