The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is making preparations to receive President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama on Friday.

The Obamas will be visiting Cannon Ball, a community on the North Dakota portion of the reservation. The trip coincides with the tribe's flag day celebration so they will get to see dancers, singers and drum groups perform at the powwow grounds.

Tribal council members are distributing tickets to the event in their respective communities. Everyone must have a ticket to enter, the tribe said in an alert today.

Security will be tight for the visit so Cannon Ball will be closed to vehicles on Friday morning. Residents of the community who must travel for work or for other reasons are urged to leave before 9am.

Everyone else with tickets must go to the Prairie Knights Casino and Resort to check in. From there, they will be transported to Cannon Ball.

The drive is only about 15 minutes but people are advised to check in at Prairie Knights as early as possible, the tribe said. All dancers, singers and drummers must go to the casino first and are being asked to come in full dress.

People who live in Cannon Ball will also be transported to the powwow grounds from a location in the community, the tribe said.

The Obamas are expected to spend a couple of hours on the reservation but details haven't been released by the White House so far.
