The Bureau of Indian Affairs has added 569 acres to the reservation of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community in Minnesota.

Assistant Secretary Kevin Washburn signed the reservation proclamation on June 20, according to a notice that was published in today's issue of the Federal Register. The land is located in Scott County.

The tribe owns more than 3,760 acres, according to its website. Of that amount, 1,843 acres are in trust so the addition of the new lands represents a significant step for the tribe, whose land-into-trust applications have faced legal challenges for more than a decade.
