The Cachil Dehe Band of Wintun Indians, also known as the Colusa Indian Community is using a $189,200 grant to restore elk habitat in California.

The tribe received the grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The money will be used to restore land at the Cortina Ranch, a 7,000-acre property owned by the tribe.

"We’re just going to try to get them a new place to call home," Casey Stafford, the director of land management at the ranch, told The Chico News & Review, referring to the Tule elk.

The money came from the Tribal Wildlife Grant Program. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service awarded 25 grants nationwide, including five in California.
