A Native woman from Canada is competing on the new season of the NBC show, The Biggest Loser.

Jackie Pierson, who is Ojibway, grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was an active athlete in high school until an injury put her on the sidelines.

Pierson, 36, now works for the Native American Health Center in California. She hopes her weight loss journey will help inspire other Native Americans, according to her bio on the NBC page.

The season premieres on Thursday.
