Former White House, a aide Kim Teehee is returning home to the Cherokee Nation after a high-profile career in Washington, D.C.

Teehee, who was the first-ever Senior Policy Advisor for Native American Affairs under President Barack Obama, is joining Cherokee Nation Businesses. She will serve as vice president of special projects for the tribe's holding company.

"I am excited to be returning home to Cherokee Nation after being away for nearly 20 years to work in Washington, D.C.,” Teehee said in a press release. “I am truly humbled and honored to serve my tribe and to help build on the successes of Cherokee Nation Businesses by growing the Cherokee economy through diversification and job creation and providing the resources that support essential social services upon which our citizens rely."

At the White House, Teehee played a key role in shaping the Obama administration's Indian policy. Prior to her stint there, she worked for the Congressional Native American Caucus on behalf of former Rep. Dale Kildee (D-Michigan).

“She brings a wealth of experience home to the Cherokee Nation, from the White House to the U.S. Capitol to her work as a lobbyist on critical Native issues," Chief Bill John Baker said. "That experience will serve us well in her new role as CNB's vice president of special projects.”

After leaving the White House in April 2012, Teehee worked for a law and lobbying firm.
