Sean Sherman, a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, plans to open a unique restaurant in Minnesota that focuses on traditional foods.

Sherman will focus on Lakota and Ojibwe cuisines at his restaurant, dubbed The Sioux Chef. Menu items will incorporate corn, squash, sage, white pine, chokecherries, buffalo and other foods that his ancestors relied on for generations.

"Native foods are very regional," Sherman told Mic. "The particular region speaks very much to what its food identity is all about."

Sherman plans to open the restaurant this fall somewhere in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.
